Jeri McMaster – Owner/Head Janitor
I showed up at a CrossFit Portland several years ago. I felt like I was in the worst shape of my life. I had sustained several injuries in my first season learning to kiteboard. I had 2 torn rotator cuffs and a screwed up instep in one foot. The shoulder problem had really slowed my life a lot. I walked in and saw what everyone was up to and thought, wow this is how I want to train, but man, I can’t imagine a pull-up in my future any time soon with this shoulder. I jumped in, tried a workout, scaled the things I couldn’t do just yet, and was hooked, in one short hour. I thought all the barbells moving around seemed funny. Who lifts weight anymore anyway? The bar seemed heavy. And I thought that kind of working out would “bulk me up“, which was dead opposite of what I was trying to do. 3 years later, here I am, opening CrossFit Hood River. Spent part of the summer working at the CrossFit Games, judging and volunteering. Best shape of my life. Stronger, faster, and loving the feeling of stacking another plate on the bar, hoping to get a muscle-up before 2010, and adding more and more pull-ups every day. Certainly not bulked up. Not getting injured anymore, and when I can get out and play, I can do so much more with more endurance, stamina, better balance and flexibility. CrossFit has made my life better. A lot better. I function better and have met an incredible community that I didn’t know existed. Theres no more of getting old and your strength going away. I’m glad to have this as a way to stay on top of my game. I’m so excited to be bringing this to the Gorge. Come train with me!
